Decision Making Skills for System Operators


image_DMSSOThis 16-hour on-line class is intended to provide participants with necessary decision-making skills that can be utilized in fulfilling their everyday role in real-time operations. Participants are expected to already possess the basic principles of operating in an interconnected system. The participants will be required to utilize their knowledge of system operations and apply this knowledge while integrating the concepts identified for making decisions. Exercises may require the utilization of the Finist Simulator system. The situations presented in the exercises will deal with various system events.


Module Objectives:

  • Define the elements for consideration in making time critical decisions
  • Identify the characteristics of intuitive skills utilized during operational situations
  • Describe the decision-making model and how it is utilized during scenarios that involved System deficiencies, dispatching of personnel, restoration of system equipment, environmental hazards, planned outage processing, nuclear feeds during restoration, and terrorist threat on a nuclear facility
  • Explain the situational awareness bubble, advanced team decision making concepts, and demonstrate team decision making skills
